What's the Difference Between a 12-Volt Charging System and a 14-Volt Charging System?

Is there a difference between a 12-Volt Charging System and a 14-Volt Charging System? No.

A twelve-volt charging system might be labeled as a fourteen-volt charging system. This is because the voltage regulator in most heavy-duty 12-volt systems will be set to keep the system voltage at  just over 14 volts when the engine is running. That voltage would be with an average amperage load and a fully charged battery or batteries.

Amperage demand in the vehicle electrical system and the ability of the charging system to keep up with that demand determines the exact voltage in the system.
